Research Assistant

The Ontario Internationally Educated Nurses Course Consortium is seeking to hire a Research Assistant.

Brief Description of Duties

The Research Assistant will support the evaluation of the Ontario Internationally Educated Nurses Course Consortium programs. The evaluation focuses on program outcomes, learner experiences, curriculum effectiveness, and post completion readiness for nursing practice in Canada. The Research Assistant will assist with data collection, management, analysis, and the preparation of reports and dissemination materials. The ideal candidate will have experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research, a strong understanding of nursing education or health related academic programs, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-institutional research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Collection:

  • Complete Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2: CORE 2022) certificate
  • Recruit and follow up with participants
  • Conduct surveys and interviews
  • Obtain informed consent from participants

Data Management:

  • Organize, store, and maintain research data in accordance with ethical and institutional requirements
  • Verify transcriptions for accuracy
  • Maintain secure databases and ensure confidentiality

Data Analysis:

  • Code and analyze qualitative data using software such as NVivo, MAXQDA, or similar
  • Support quantitative data analysis using Excel, SPSS, or other statistical tools
  • Summarize findings and prepare drafts of tables, charts, and thematic summaries

Literature Support:

  • Conduct targeted literature searches on IEN education, bridging programs, curriculum outcomes, and related topics
  • Summarize current research to inform evaluation design, interpretation, and reporting

Administrative and Coordination Tasks:

  • Coordinate meetings, schedule participant interviews, and maintain project timelines
  • Assist in preparing progress updates for the research team
  • Support the preparation of Research Ethics Board (REB) submissions and amendments as needed

Report Writing and Knowledge Translation:

  • Contribute to interim and final evaluation reports
  • Assist in creating presentations, infographics, or briefing notes for stakeholders
  • Support development of conference abstracts and manuscripts

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in nursing, health sciences, social sciences, education, or a related field; PhD (complete or in progress) considered an asset
  • Coursework or certification in research methods and program evaluation
  • Knowledge of nursing education programs, internationally educated nursing pathways, or healthcare workforce integration
  • Experience working as a Research Assistant or in a research related role conducting surveys and interviews
  • Demonstrated experience with data management and analysis and proficiency with research software such as NVivo, MAXQDA, SPSS, R, or REDCap
  • Familiarity with ethics processes, confidentiality, and research involving human participants
  • Experience with academic writing, report drafting, or knowledge translation products
  • Willingness and ability to work with and provide feedback to the research team
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with participants from diverse backgrounds

Other Considerations

  • The Research Assistant contract will be a one year contract with Trent University. The Research Assistant rate is $11,034 plus 4% vacation per contract for 367 hours with the possibility of a contract renewal.
